About this Scheme

The Agency for Development of Aquaculture, Kerala (ADAK) is a dedicated state agency promoting scientific aquaculture practices across Kerala. ADAK provides technical assistance, input supply, and financial support for shrimp farming, freshwater aquaculture, and ornamental fish culture. With Kerala's extensive backwater network and coastline, ADAK focuses on sustainable brackishwater farming in Pokkali fields and Kaipad wetlands, alongside inland fish culture in ponds and reservoirs.

Objectives

1Promote scientific and sustainable aquaculture practices in Kerala's unique wetland ecosystems
2Revive traditional Pokkali and Kaipad shrimp farming with modern techniques
3Support freshwater aquaculture in homestead ponds and community water bodies
4Develop ornamental fish culture as a livelihood for women and youth

Eligibility Criteria

Fish farmers and aquaculture practitioners in Kerala
Traditional Pokkali/Kaipad farmers in coastal districts
Women SHGs (Kudumbashree groups) interested in fish farming
Youth entrepreneurs under 40 years seeking aquaculture livelihood
SC/ST and BPL families with access to water bodies

Benefits

50% subsidy on pond construction/renovation up to Rs. 2.5 lakh per hectare
Free quality shrimp seed (PL) for Pokkali farming through ADAK hatcheries
Technical guidance and training through ADAK field officers
Input kit supply: lime, feed, and probiotics at subsidized rates
Ornamental fish unit support up to Rs. 75,000 (60% for Women/SC/ST)
Biofloc unit establishment support of 50% up to Rs. 3 lakh

Application Process

1Contact the nearest ADAK regional office or Kerala Fisheries Department
2Submit application with land and identity documents
3ADAK technical officer conducts site assessment and feasibility check
4Subsidy approved by ADAK governing board and released via DBT
