About this Scheme

Tamil Nadu operates one of the most progressive aquaculture development programs in India, supporting both marine and inland aquaculture. The scheme provides high subsidies for pond construction, shrimp hatcheries, RAS units, and cage culture. Tamil Nadu is a major producer of Vannamei shrimp, Cobia, and brackishwater fish, with a strong export-oriented aquaculture sector centred around Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, and Ramanathapuram districts.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Fish farmers with land suitable for aquaculture in Tamil Nadu
  • SC/ST beneficiaries with higher subsidy provision (up to 75%)
  • Youth entrepreneurs under 35 years with fisheries background
  • SHGs, FFPOs, and cooperatives in the fisheries sector

Benefits

  • 50% subsidy on new pond/tank construction up to Rs. 5 lakh per hectare (75% for SC/ST)
  • RAS unit subsidy of 50% up to Rs. 25 lakh per unit
  • Cage culture support with 50% cost coverage for cage fabrication and stocking
  • Biofloc unit subsidy of 50% up to Rs. 4 lakh per unit
  • Free training at the Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, Nagapattinam
  • Crop insurance premium subsidy

Application Process

  1. 1Register on the TN eFisheries portal or apply at the District Fisheries Office
  2. 2Submit application with land and identity documents
  3. 3Field inspection by Assistant Director of Fisheries
  4. 4District Collector approves and subsidy is released via DBT
